I don't understand how an M44 can shoot more accurate with the bayo extended than with it in. How does it happen?

If you remove the bayonet from the rifle, will it help the accuracy or is it doomed to be not as good as with the bayo on/extended?

Thanks guys,

What you read applied to M91/30 - it barrel harmonics were tuned with bayo attached. For M44 it does not matter, its accuracy is mediocre and in my experiments the extended or even just mounted bayo shifted POI way to the left.

I have not found any difference in point of impact at all with the bayonet extended or retracted on my M44's. In fact the one I have, has now been lightened up, bolt turned down and used as a backup deer rifle. The lug was removed all together and the gun shoots absolutely wonderful.

It would seem that my experiences differ from the above posts.

I have never shot my Polish M-44 with the bayonet extended, but I have shot it mounted and unmounted. It shoots much more accurately with the bayonet fixed to it's lug.

It's performance is far from mediocre with 124 grn and 56 grn BL-C ( 2) hand loads, it's a sub minute of angle rifle. I have tried several recipies but non come anywhere close to this one.
