Hi there,

I bought an M44 just this afternoon, and disassembled it so I could work on degreasing the thing.

When I put it back together, I must have done something wrong, but from what I've read I did everything correctly. I replaced receiver/barrel into the stock, tightened the two screws, replaced the handguard, and then pulled the trigger and slid the bolt back in. It was a little hard to slide back in, but I figured it was a problem with how I had the bolt angled so I re-aligned it and pushed to get it back in.

Unfortunately, now the trigger isn't functional. It's completely loose, and wiggles back and forth through it's entire range of motion. Worse yet, I can't pull the trigger to remove the bolt again, so I can't find out what went wrong.

Any ideas?

If you can't see what's wrong and haven't already, drop the stock off the barrel and reciever and manually disengage the trigger. A thin screw driver and gentle coaxing should do the trick... don't force it!!. Depending on what you did you might have worked some cosmoline into the trigger assembly and it's jammed up. Posting pics of the whole deal could help a lot.
Best of luck!

Edit: also, on at least the mosin's that I've handled, the tolerances are so loose that the bolts should just drop in with gravity when the trigger is pulled. I always live by the motto - If it isn't moving, there's a reason why it isn't.
