I have not shot my M44 for 2 years. My recollection is that it kicked hard.

I bought a rubber butt pad on ebay for less than $10. The metal ones comes off and the same screws mount the rubber one. It increases the pull length by about 1". Now is 14". Rifle still feels comfortable to aim.

Tomorrow I shoot it and I will report back.

Edit: I shot the rifle today. Rifle was comfortable to aim with the extra inch of pull. The big fireball is still there. The concussion is still there. But the pain is gone. Best $10 you can spend on a M44.

I did something a little different. Bought a spare MN butt plate, epoxied a piece of a flip flop to it, cut and trimmed.
Quick coat of rubberized undercoat (the flip flop was blue - all I could find in October) and mounted. Works like a charm and only adds 1/2" to LOP. Went from 20 rds to over 60 a trip.

I don't find the recoil too bad even with 203grain soft points, but it tends to leave a mark with too many shots from prone. Where did you pick up the rubber extender?

I'd like to get one of those Ganderite. I've been using a slip on and actually really like it.
I love the recoil of my M38, except after the usual 60-100 rounds I tend to shoot out of it when it comes to the range. The slip on really helps with continued shooting comfort as the day goes on and other rifles and 12 gauges get pulled out and shot as well.

The slip on also helps keep the cartridge carrier tight and in place, while the carrier conceals the ugly added rubber from the slip on by covering basically all of it.
The nylon from the carrier feels better than the wood on the cheek too.
