anybody out there have a m44 carbine?if so how do you like it ,acurate to 200 yards?would it be a decent deer rifle.im thinking of getting one ,never even seen one let alone fired one,how comparable to a .303 is it?

They're fun! I've had the m38 and m44, both are quite similar in almost all regards, considering that the M44 has the permanently attached bayonet.

I only ever shot surplus through mine, but it was reasonably accurate. Personally I would go with a sportered enfield for deer hunting, mainly because an accurate enfield of the same size and weight is much easier to find than the same standard of M44. If you're trying to validate a milsurp purchase by wanting it for hunting, then it's a decent rig for that.

I am slightly biased though, as I prefer long rifles to carbines.

shot about 300rds through my m44 in the past month
I wouldn't use it as a 200 yard deer rifle till i mount a scope but the accuraccy is pretty good to 100m then i can;t see the targets
when the time comes it will be my close range bear gun and the m14 will be the 200meter deer gun,
love the m44 none the less just not designed for critical long range shots

I have two, I think they are great. I would say the 7.62 x 54 is a better round than the .303 especially if you load your own. If you want a best quality M-44 get one that was made in Poland, they are still dirt cheap.
