Hey guys

got one that might make your brains hurt (asked alot maybe?)

but basically. I want a mosin nagant.

MORE SPECIFICALLY. I want some shorter models.

M38 or 39

Maybe an M44

I DON'T KNOW YET :)

Can anybody give me places that sell/ how much/ accuracy?

any input really would be appreciated.

The M38's were made in considerably smaller numbers than the 91/30 (mainly as a carbine for artillery, engineers and transport troops) and it seems as if even the M44, which was introduced in large measure to replace the 91/30 towards the end of the war and produced into the 1950s by a few Soviet allies never reached the same numbers as its longer predecessor.

At least one importer I've spoken to said that the overseas sources of M38s and M44 seem to have dried up, which also seems to match with what I'm hearing from the States. Keep an eye out on the EE and elsewhere, since it does not sound like any are expected to turn up in great numbers anytime soon, and it's unclear as to whether there's any more stockpiles left overseas that will become available to us. At least they still show up for reasonable prices, not too much higher than when they were in stock about two years ago.

I have an East German M44 that shoots a 3/4 inch group at 50 yards. I paid 175 bucks last spring. It shoots the same with bayonet on, off, or extended.

The nicer short mosin nagant is without any doubt the polish m44...
These rifles were built in the 1950's, fit and finish is awesome.
Prepare you to pay 300+ bucks for a Polish but they are like new !!!

I just can't tell you for accuracy... I saw a couples at the shooting range but I never shoot one :(
Depend of what kind of ammo you use too... :yingyang:

Can't beat the Polish quality...

I've got the M38, a regular and laminate stocked M44 and Polish built carbine.

I've only shot my M38 so far, and find it rather fun to play with. I seem to be able to manage consistently hitting the paper at 200 yards (with perhaps the very occasional miss), and I could probably do a bit better with practice. For an open sighted carbine with its share of recoil, I'm pleasantly satisfied. With my Russian SKS, I'm lucky to get 60% of my shots on paper at 200 yards, and unless I can improve upon that significantly, it will remain a clear second place rifle in terms of accuracy.

I haven't shot the M44s yet, but can vouch for the wonderful workmanship on the Polish carbine. They all have nice bores and aren't counterbored, and should be reasonably accurate rifles when I get down to shooting them.

The M38 that I had shot around 4 MOA with Sellier and Bellot 180gr soft points off the bench, which grouped pretty close to my actual point of aim. The bore looked to be in quite good condition (although counterbored) so a non-counterbored Polish M44 with handloads could probably produce some very respectable milsurp groups!
