M47C marked No4 Parker Hale sporter

Hello,

I came across this a while visiting a friend. It's a No4 Parker Hale sporter with an M47C marking on the wrist. I was wondering if this was maybe a cut down No4 Mk (T) into a sporter or made from leftover parts. Seems the original marks were ground off and new ones were over stamped. Any idea's?

I would say not. There is no "T" stamp on the left receiver side wall, nor is there a "TR" stamp below the serial number on the butt socket of your rifle. No4 Mk (T)'s all have this "T" and "TR" stamp I speak about. Because they are stamped clear and deep, there would be significant metal loss and some visible deformity if completely ground off. Does not seem to be the case with your rifle.

M47C doesn't mean it was s sniper. its simply the makers mark

M 47 C is BSA

Yes, M47 is BSA, C indicates which BSA factory. There were three, all in the Birmingham area. I think C was at Shirley (since absorbed by the city) but look it up if you want to be sure.
