So Ive had my heart set on a Sako Finnlight in .308 for quite some time, Ive handled and got to shoot one in 30-06. Anyways, Ive been checking out this New Winchester Model 70 SS Extreme Weather and am starting to wonder if I should just go with it and save 500 dollars. They seem so similar(yes I realize there are some glaring differences) What do the pros think??

Thanks!

Well, one difference is you can buy the Sako now, but may be another year for the Winchester, as they haven't even hit the shelves in the US yet.

I have a Sako 75 .308 Finnlight, and I enjoy shooting it. I have shot everything from 110 gr Vmax to 180gr Partitions, all with great accuracy. No doubt the 70 will be a nice rig as well, and it comes with a B&C stock, but is 3/4 lb heavier.

The stock on the Sako fits me well, but I have a McMillan Edge on order for it, which should drop the weight to under 7lbs scoped.:)

I don't think you'd regret either one.

They are both well made rifles and you would not go wrong with either. You need to heft and if possible shoot each one.

For me, the Sako feels odd and unbalanced - it's a good rifle, just not for me. I very much prefer the Winchester - for me. This much is true, a rifle with proper care will last your lifetime so take your time and get what is right for you.

Check out the A7....more in the M70 price range. Both great guns but after shooting both, my personal preference was the A7 but can't say a bad word about the M70. I liked it better than the X-Bolt for sure.
