Looking at the M70 Extreme Weather and the Vanguard S2 Backcountry both in 30-06.
They both fit me well, and are in the same price range.

Anyone have any experience with either of these they'd care to share?

Thanks.

I've also had a few of each. If I had to pick one over the other I think I like the M70. it's hard to beat the price of the vanguard though. I think you would be equally happy with either in the end.

I just recently picked up the Win 70 Extreme Weather, really nice rifle with a very slick action. My only complaint is the heavy trigger, it is supposed to come from the factory set at 3.5lbs but it feels much heavier.

But even with the heavy trigger this rifle shot moa with the cheap winchester super X ammo. I'm sure once I work up some hand loads she will be a very accurate rifle.

They are actually quite different rifles.

light vs heavy(ish)
cerakote vs stainless
push feed vs control feed
nice trigger vs decent trigger

Thanks for the info guys,

Im leaning toward the M70, but I'd been hearing good things about the S2.

The published weight diff is within a 1/4lb (unless I missed something)

I stand corrected. I had an Extreme Weather in 270 wsm. It was a nice and accurate gun. I should have kept it. For some reason I thought the Backcountry was lighter. I'd go with the Model 70 in that case for sure.

My pick would be the M70, I have three a , 7x57 FW, .264 and 270 WSM. in extreme.
I think finding one New might be a problem, I see a couple of used ones up for sale on EE,
One thing about Model 70, is they have good resale value, and normally the used rack will have a dozen, rem, savages, brownings etc, and one lonely M70.

Both are great rifles, I am a M70 fanboy so I'd say go with a classic rifle,..yeah the Rifleman's Rifle:p:p . The Vanguard may indeed be a better shooter, but is lacking a little in the looks department IMHO.
