M700 Safety Question

I know it was in the 1980's, but does anyone know what year it was, that Remington modified the M700 safety so that you could cycle the bolt, with thd safety engaged?
Earlt M700 safeties, likr my 1980 .30-06, tbe bolt is locked, when the safety. Is on.
Some people believe that is a better safety.
My 1989 .338WM has the safety wbich allows the bolt to cycle...

Remington changed it after they were sued. The lawsuit was based on the fact to unload a chambered round you had to disengage the safety... this could be argued that was an unsafe procedure. Remington was always a big target for lawsuits.
