Here's a pic of two of my Model 70's...top is a new FN stainless/walnut Featherweight in 270...lower is my 1959 Fwt in 30-06...both weigh exactly 8lbs on my scale with 2.5-8X Leupolds in Leupold rings and bases. Not exactly lightweights but not heavyweights either. The '06 shoots factory loaded Fed 165 TSX's in an inch,...we'll see what the 270 can do tomorrow with 130 grain Accubonds and Ballistic Tips pushed by 58 to 60 grs H4831SC. Gotta love Model 70's of any vintage. I cannot remember when the last time was that I did not take a new rifle out of the stock and adjust the trigger.....the 270's out of the box trigger is 2lbs 12 ounces and crisp....guess I got a good one.....:)

Look forward to hearing how it does, ;)and load details.

The FN M-70 seems to have a much thicker barrel and the stock looks a little beefier. I just picked up a compact FW in .308 that is will need to be rebarreled into something more interesting.

How did it shoot?

As luck,..or lack of same would have it, I didn't make it to the range on Sunday.......
If I don't go hunting this weekend I will be going to the range.
Season opens on Saturday out west and up north...

I have another Model 70 in 270 to shoot also....a few months ago I bought a 1949 Model 70 in 270 for the action,..decided to scope it up and see how it shoots....

.277? Thats 7 thou. too small for something Rembo would own...you must be just staging it for a rebarrel to .280 Rem :p

you're reading my mind,...the '49 270 was staged for a barrel recontour, a reblue and insertion into a Micky Edge that I grabbed off the Specials page,...until two #2 Shilens in 7mm showed up and I remembered the Edge has a Shilen #2 barrel channel.......now the plans might change,.....one of the Shilens is destined for a 280AI on a lefty 700 in another Edge for my oldest son......the other was destiend for the same in a RH 700 and another Edge,...but I may end up with a Pre'64 Edge stocked 280AI instead....decisions decisions.....too many actions, stocks and barrels, too little time...
