Hello CGN,
I have the chance to pick up an M95M but she was turned into a mild sporter. As such, I am doing my homework on the Steyr M95M and wished to know if there was a possibility of replacement stocks and hand guards out there ? I read that the bolt head and extractor are near impossible to find as is the magazine fittings.
In essence, I am aiming to perform a restoration job on this one.
The one I am getting has a 24inch barrel with it's front sight base still intact. The barrel is also stepped. There is also a side sling swivel on the left side of the Austrian style pistol grip. A Yugo style serial number is present on the stock just below the receiver serial number.
By the looks of it, the M95M appears to be the same length as a Kar98k or perhaps an M48. Were the stocks used on the M95M made specifically for them or could you swap almost any M95 stock or hand guard ?
Finally, how about the bands ? They look like the regular Austrian style but I wanted to be sure.
Slightly off topic but out of curiosity, I am wondering if the Yugoslavians replaced the barrel with one chambered in 8x57mm or if they modified the, I am assuming, 8x56R one ? On that note, any idea if they modified the tangent sight and/or rear sight base ?
Thank you for any insight and help provided.
