I have a Swedish M96 that is (or was) an absolute tack driver. A few months ago I got the great ifea to clean the copper out of the barrel with a product called KG-12. I stopped by the range today and my first three shots only had one on paper. I only had time for six more shots. These were actually on paper but were all over the place. Could removing the copper fouling make such a huge difference?

Yessir.... dirty bore/fouling shots are required for consistency although your case sounds a little extreme.

I tend to leave the copper in my bores of my rifles. I've scrubbed several tack drivers mirror clean and had the same results.

After several fouling shots I find my groups tighten up again.

I was using handloads worked up when the bore was still full of copper. I didn't expect such a difference.

I hear ya, first time I cleaned a rifle and the groups opened right up I spent an hour checking the action screws and things like that.

10 rounds later the groups tightened right up.

That's why the Swiss just grease the barrel after shooting and run a de-greasing patch before shooting it the next time.
Saves ammo and barrel wears out much less.
