I am thinking of starting to part out a build for a .308 AR. the MA-10 receivers look pretty good.

I am wondering what parts these receivers will accept? I can probably order quite a bit from Wolverine, like the LPK, BCG, Stock, ect. But I am not sure if these will fit theis receiver.

Also, I understand these take the DPMS pattern mags that LMT and KAC use? Is this correct?

Any info anyone has would be appreciated.

I know their was a thread about these receivers that had a lot of info, but I did a search but could not find it.

In addition, will standard AR-15 tools work for this as well? like barrel wrench? and speaking of barrels, who makes a 20" barrel?

Thanks.

All the answers are on the Mega web site.

Yes.
You can use all the same tools. I believe it was only the bolt stop that was different in the LPK's. Torque on the barrel nut is still 35lbs.

It's not about the easy. It's about the building something. Any retarded monkey on acid can buy one.

I thought it was about the shooting? Unless you're actually building/creating your own uppers and lowers (See Dogzilla's threads) then it's pretty much just ikea style assembly. Some assembly required rather than "building" something. Personally I'd rather have something cool and ready to go right out of the box. Some people like to tinker. Others not so much. Plus a lot of these stuck together parts projects tend to cost more than just a complete rifle.

As if you went there! IKEA! Lol!
True and false. If your goal is to build a cheap rifle, then you can likely build one for under $1000, but you will most likely not stop there. A lot of people get hooked by what they may think is better equipment. My hangup is VLTOR uppers. Increases the price quite a bit. True, you want a gun to shoot and shoot well, but with the right parts(and there is tons) you can make a rifle shoot pretty damn fine. The building adds another dynamic to the hobbie. Me, I like both. Blaxsun said something to me that made a lot of sense. That is by nature humankind has an aversion to collect things. We build them and when we are done we throw it in the gun locker and move on to the next project. Yup, that's me. This is the only hobbie I don't get bored of out of all the hobbies I've done. Thank God for lots of manufacturers. Lol!

Yes, but not all retarded monkeys on acid can build things. But it is IKEA :D

As for the barrel: Alberta tactical and Bits of Pieces (Delta, BC) can turn a blank for you. It seems to run about $800-1000 depending on the material/blank brand.

I've looked into this as well, I have another AR10 that is just missing a barrel.

Their is the simple and conveinient unbox and go, but you don't get the same feeling as you do from spending some extra time, waiting, sourcing parts, and eventually getting to assemble them into a finished product. Lots more satisfaction then simply opening a box.

But I do see where you are comeing from.

As for all the other info from everybody, thanks. Gonna shoot off an E-mail to ATRS about possible costs of a barrel in a bit here. And is Armalite parts will work ill price out them as well.

Armalite parts will work. I looked into one of these setups myself a while back. DPMS parts also work.

Here's the issues I found. The first is cost. A complete rifle is cheaper. Armalite for example has a 20" target model for $2000. The upper and lower specs are excellent. A DPMS is lower speced parts but under the Remington named R25 Ive seen them on sale new for $1200 and Ive heard of clearances for less.

The only reason to go to the ten setup is to get a better upper and lower than DPMS or to use DPMS mags with Armalite inards.

All the Armalite parts will work, except for the bolt catch. I guess you didn't bother checking out the MEGA MATEN FAQ I mentioned on the first page?

Here, I'll make it real easy for you.

It seems to me that the AR10's are alot less interchange friendly. I have to admit, it seems more crazy than your basic AR build.

Unlike the AR-15/M16 platform there are no "mil-spec" requirments for the AR10 style guns. This is probably because up till now at least the have had limited military applications. For example there are at least 3 different types of mags, Armalite style, DPMS style (Magpul mags fit this platform) and Rock River style (uses FN mags).

A DPMS upper won't fit an Armalite lower. I nearly made the mistake of buying an Armalite lower from Wolversine (good price, BTW) to use with a DPMS upper but when I did some reading I found out that they are not compatible.

Mixing & matching AR style .308 parts is a real bag of snakes. DO YOUR RESEARCH FIRST before you start buying stuff

I knew about the FN and the DPMS mags but I was unaware of the Armalite ones.
I've never built one yet, but I have accessorized one (DPMS) and they are a sweet beast. Once I gain more info on this I'm going to have to build one of these MA TENS next. I'm secretly keeping a file here of all the little info I'm gaining from you guys. It all helps a great deal.
A friend of mine said. "if you want to be a master of your weapon system, you must know everything about it." He also said that Lance Armstrong might be a great racer but you can bet he knows how to build the snot out of a bike from every angle. I believe that to be true. All this collection information is good for all of us. So thanks in advance for you guys sharing your experiences and knowledge.

By the way. He called it a "weapon system" and not a "firearm" or a "rifle". Sorry if I offended anyone, but he is American. Lol!
