After lots of searching I came to realize there is absolutely nothing out there for parts for the 702 plinkster in Canada. So I decided to go a different route with the busted up 702 I picked up last week.
So the 702 came to me with no stock, and JB Weld on the mag catch because "the pin fell out then the stock broke because the stock held it in." I noticed a crack in the trigger group so I figured it was basically trashed, but I like a challenge.
After getting the rifle stripped down I found the trigger group assembly broken in two pieces, the detent and spring missing from the safety (also is the mag catch spring) and when i was checking the bore I noticed that the barrel was bent, so logically I assume it was run over by something. Also the 25 round mag was bent, but after taking it apart it just needed popped back in place.
So I epoxied the trigger group back together, made a new detent out of a pin from an AR trigger group kit, and found that a ball point pen spring was the perfect fit. I bent the barrel back pretty close to straight with the vise. I wanted to try to shoot it but with out a buttstock it was kind of uncomfortable so I took a piece of 1/4 x 3/4 flat bar and made a quick buttstock. Once I got it back home I took an old AR grip and screwed it on, Now it was starting to give me an idea. I've always loved Mad Max and Post Apocalyptic movies, so I figured Id build this into something that someone might put together from bits and pieces they've found after things went south.
I took an old weaver rail, drilled a hole in it, and mounted it for a "fore stock". Only bolt I had was about a half inch to long (but hey this is post Apocalypse so you take what you get right?) used some nuts and washers to make it fit. Took a picatinny riser from another old project and a bipod and stuck that on there, keeping the barrel free floating so as to maintain accuracy of course. And I stuck on an old scope I picked up at Canadian Tire 7 or 8 years ago for about 50 bucks.
So after a few hours heres what I have, looks pretty cool to me, might not fit anyone elses fancy but I like it. Should have it to the range later this week and see how well i got the barrel straight.
