Made my wife an addict

It is time for a "Gun Buying Travel Holiday".
Let her feel her way through hold and handling qualities that suit her. Alberta is a big place with lots of firearms sales facilities.
There are four things a lady should not buy for a man . . . guns, scopes, binoculars and knives.
That being said there are four things a man should not buy for a lady . . . guns, scopes, binoculars and knives. It is fine to pay but picking the product should be her choice.
With all the suggestions in respect to caliber this is only something she can determine.
Availability is a huge concern for a non-hand loader. 243, 25-06, 270 and 308 may fit the bill
That concern disappears if you hand load. 260, 6.5x55, and 7mm08 come into play and I base this on what is normally stocked in quantity and sporting goods store. Say what you want but even Cabela's and WSS do not stock those calibers with an expanded weight and bullet style combination.
That being said, recoil sensitivity does not appear to have been discussed other than what she is currently using. Has she ever been subjected to the recoil of a 7mm Rem. Mag of a 30-06?
Take your time and enjoy the experience.

How about a savage lady hunter in .308 or 7mm-08

+1

I have a Savage 11 Lightweight Hunter in 7mm-08 that is a good option too.

Show her a Browning Micro Midas and watch her face...

.308 is an easy to find ammunition. Same for reloading components.

A youth model can be an advantage while hunting deer with heavy clothes for cold weather.

Put a good scope over any of her choice .

7-08 is perfect in a light weight rifle like the browning micro. put on alight weight scope you should be around 7 lbs. slightly shorter length of pull. or the savage light weight version already mentioned
