So I bumped the shoulders back on some once fired 300 win mag brass. Once fired winchester stuff. At least ten years old. I do have some new norma brass, however at the cost of it I want to use cheaper brass to play. I know there is no chance I am the first to do this. I am wondering how brass made this way has lasted compared to norma brass for you guys. I will look for an accurate load 100 fps off a listed max load. I have out grown looking for max velocity.

Take accuracy where you find it as long as not too hot. .300 win. mag brass works fine but needs trimmed. the .338win mag is a little short in the neck and 7mm rem mag makes the cleanest. When using .300 win mag lube up to where the new shoulder will be sparingly or you will get oil dents.as well q-tip lube the inside of the necks.I find it best to remove the decapper button rod on the first pass.

I have made hundreds of 308 Norma cases from 300 Win Mag. It is an easy task.
The brass lasts very well. I have a batch of WW Super 300 brass so converted
that is on it's 11th firing. It has been annealed a couple of times, but other than
that, all works fine. Dave.

Dave would you be kind enough to let let me know what velocity/weight you are shooting, or what your load is to get that case life? Thanks

Do you just ignore the matter of 7mm rem mag cases being .060" short?

When I first got my 308 Norma brass was non existent in Canada, did exactly this out of once fired. Still using the same brass 10 years later.

It really doesn't matter much, but I prefer the 300 Win Mag for a full length neck. Really, any of the intermediate length belted mag cases can be used, but all will be a little short. Haven't done this in a long time, as I lucked into quite a bit of 308 NM (and 358 NM) for my rifles in those cartridges. - dan

Glad to, with the caveat that you start 3 grains lower and work up carefully. I have only shot 180 and 200 grain bullets from any of my Norma Mags
180 Partition/Accubond/A-Frame: WW Super 300 WIN case, formed & trimmed to length, WLRM primer, 75.5 grains of Norma MRP [or Reloder 22], seated .020 off the lands [except the A-Frame, I seat them .050 off the lands]. This generally gives 3050+ in a 24" tube, close to 3100 in a 26".
200 Partition/Accubond: Same case, primer, but 73.0 grains of IMR7828. This will flirt yield about 2980 fps in my custom 26" 308NM.

Incidentally, one of the nice features of the 308 Norma case is a decent length neck. While forming cases from 7mm Rem Mag or 338 Win Mag cases works, I feel it defeats the advantage
that the longer neck provides, so choose not to use these. Dave.

I use Hornady 7mm Rem Mag brass necked up to 30 cal in my 308NM for general plinking needs. Fire form loads are surprisingly accurate. The necks end up short but I can live with that.

You could probably form from 257/270/7mm Wby brass and get closer to the correct case length. 257 would lengthen the most and may even need a trim. They are 50thou longer then the regular 2.5" standard mag cartridges.

My issue is that if I was to change my user name it would be to Magnum v2.5. A take on the naked gun movie sequel title. But I really seem to go for the 2.5" magnum family. Since I have a few, it's rather important that headstamp stays correct. Brass for the 308 norma, is pricey and rare but not unobtainium like say 350mag or some of the Weatherby cartridges.

Looky........20+years ago virgin 308nm in those generic 20 boxes, was $60/20 at hunters in surrey. Doubt it's gone down. Brass for really hard to find calibers can be $5/ + for virgin down to $2/ for many fired/clapped out stuff. Like anything else, it's being at the right time on the EE.
