Made some parts... Which finish and where to send them recommandations...

Hi guys,

Made some parts for my Colt/Walther 1911-22 because I was not able to import them from the states.

Its basically 2 X thread adaptors and 3 X thread protectors.

I also modified a couple other parts for this pistol and they are duracoated.
The duracoat finish match well the pistol finish.

I did not wanted the thread adaptors/protectors duracoated because this adds a couple thousands and want the dimensions to stay the same.


My first question is : what kind of black color finish for the thread adaptors/protectors will match the finish of my pistol ?

Second question is : who will make this kind of finish with such a small batch of parts ?


Oh and btw, these parts are made of steel.

Slow rust bluing would do the trick.

Unless you made them ultra tight a thin spray of Dura shouldn't interfere with anything.

Otherwise you might check with 4GT in the Dealer Network tab up top. You can get KG K-phos which will give you parkerize like rust protection on the interior and then shoot your Dura Black on the outside.

I would get them salt bath nitrided. No other finish even comes close for durability and economy.

If you google "Nitriding in Canada" you'll get a bunch of hits.

Finally, I decided to send them for hot bluing...

The original thread protector ( on te left ) was blued so that's why I made this choice.

It came out nice !
