Hi - I am bringing in two handguns into Canada: S&W Sigma SW9F and Para-Ordnance P1445 -that comes with Hi-Cap magazines.

They came with the Hi-Cap Mags when I bought them new around 6-10 years ago. I have always used it as such at the club here in New Zealand.

I understand that I cannot import/bring my Hi-Cap mags over and that I should buy 10-round mags for them.

Questions:
1. Can exemptions be requested (for individuals)?
2. Would it be worthwhile to convert my Hi Cap mags into 10-rounds?
3. Best place I can get these 10-round mags from? Shops that sell them?

Any info/feedback would be appreciated.

Cheers.

You can drill and rivet them yourself I believe. But you can't under any circumstances bring them into Canada without being pinned to 10.

No exemptions, and it isn't worthwhile, it's mandatory. If you want to bring them in.

Best place? There are quite a few suppliers. Scroll to the top of the screen and check out some sponsers, then check out the EE.

Brownells will sell you ten-round limited magazines for either.

Additionally, Smith & Wesson will ship directly.

Police and military are the only ones who can have 11+ mags, PERIOD.

Sell the mags you have where you are:
1) It's a shame to damage hi-cap mags.
2) Even pinned mags may cause delays/questions/addition inspections when imported.
3) Let someone else continue to enjoy them as they were meant to be.

Use the money from the sale of the good mags to buy the 10 round mags once you are here, plenty of places/ways to get legal mags.

Just think of it like your electrical gear, most, if not all will not work on North American voltage, so you will leave most of it and only bring what is worth the pain and expense of converting.

When you rivet a Glock mag can you still take it apart?

No, the follower will be trapped.

I am of the opinion that should you need to replace the follower, or clean the area of the tube you can't access from the bottom or top, it is legal to repair the disassembled magazine.
