Sounds like you already know the answer to that, but looking for someone to convince you to be bear lunch.

In your case especially, if there's a doubt, there's NO doubt.

No magazine fed shotgun has been 100% reliable in my experience.

I was having quite a bit of trouble with my Grizzly Mag but once I modified my mags it's been running perfectly. I've only run several mags through it so far but everyone feeds without a hitch.

my grizzly took alot of work grinding buffing of chamber ejection port and buffing internals as well as the mags .
the 2 mags i got with it are great now that they are broken in ,all the aftermarket mags suck without lots of grinding of lips the followers all jam up without some sanding.
with the original mags and all work done its works great have not had a issue yet but the other mags even with the work done to em still dont work all that well ,they tend to jam the shell coming out or the chamber on top of the round coming up from the mag.
that is the only kind of jam up i get with mine after all that work.

I use my 12.5 Grizz tube fed on the job on a regular basis. There is no way I would consider a mag fed even if it where more reliable. Having that mag sticking out getting tangled in the brush or my cruiser's vest would just be unacceptable. If I can't stop an ornery griz with 4 rounds, I deserve to be bear ####!

Mine would jam while feeding all the time. I could've tinkered with it and probably got it working smoothly, but ditched it instead.

BUT, rely on it with my life, not a chance. Plus, the solid steel receiver weighs a lot!

Personally, I'd look for a 45-70 short barrelled lever action and be done with it.:nest:

With possibilities of a bear coming at you, you want to eliminate ALL the variables that can go wrong under duress. It's one thing to cycle your gun from a static position at the range, yet another in harms way.

Make shift magazines that have been macgivered to work in a gun are definitely not a good idea for use in bear country. I don't care how well someone thinks they work in their gun.

If you've even had ONE malfunction with your gun, for any reason, not just magazine induced, look for something else.

Keep Murphy in check.
