Mag fed shotgun suggestions

I have accepted that my inner tacticool mall ninja needs to own one of these, however awful. My preference is for a pump action as all of my proper shotguns are semi-auto.

Before I get too into my research I was hoping some of you might have some suggestions as to the good, the bad, and the ugly of these beasts.

Your time is appreciated.

I've got a Sinisatti which I think is the same as an AS46.

I have a ton of 5 and 10 round magazines for it and they all feed fine. Even with cheap low brass shells.

It's a spring loaded action so you can't leave the action open without a device of some sort.

It's easy to pinch your hand between the rear of the forend and the receiver so I have a short vertical grip on it.

With the stock folded it is very compact but the LOP is too long.

I run it with Magpul BUIS and a co witnessed TRS25 on a riser.

I’m a big fan of the Grizzly models, have owned all of the various barrel lengths I thing from 8.5” to 18” and my favorite is the 12.5”.

The Grizzly 5 round mags I used to buy would not feed a single round without modifying the follower, after that they worked really well. I have a Sulun Bullpup Pump and a HG-105 bullpup semiauto that use AS46 mags. So the Turkish mags are better out of the box, and you can get 10 rounders. The Sulun is like totally mall ninja to the max, isn't it.

The Valtro / Brixia PM5s are IMO the best, they are an Italian designed and produced shotgun. Naturally the gun functions flawlessly, so much so that even some police and military divisions used it.

The Grizzlys seemed to be really hit and miss, often major tinkering is required to get it running reliably.

The Turkish shotguns range from complete dog sh!t to passable. I mostly think they continue to fail because they don't innovate enough, they only copy each others designs which all seem to stem from a couple original poor designs. The AS46 mags seem to be one of the better Turkish mags.... but im hesitant to invest into that platform because all the semi autos utilizing those mags may lead to them being capped to 5. Especially when the CFP starts seeing these 20rnd plus "AS46 mags" crammed into F12s lol

The Mossberg 590M mag fed may be good, not sure if they are available in Canada.

I'm a huge fan of mag fed shotguns and have a few and have sold a few. Out of all the one I have had I'm keeping my Rem 870DM and my Iron Horse. The Iron Horse is by far the best one. 870 is great but mags are almost impossible to find.

I’m a fan of the mag fed Grizzly’s but I’ve tuned it to feed 2 3/4” shell's reliably now, the length of the mag doesn’t allow it to reliably feed all 3” shells unfortunately. Some 3” loads won’t have the room to be stripped away, if I was looking for a mag fed pump gun I’d buy an 870dm model, they seem better in the mag dept from what I remember from the couple I’ve handled. They designed the mag to allow the bolt to close on an empty mag iirc, the Grizzly’s follower blocks the bolt from closing on an empty mag. It also allows you to port load quickly if you want, have hunted grouse with my mag fed Grizzly which was fun. I’ve always thought it would make a good rifled slug gun.

You would have to find one used but there were Remington 870 DM Little Beaver #2 available here...

14'' barrel...

Pretty awesome.

The fun factor of a short barrel Grizzly is hard to beat

- Bonus point if you are shooting full power load at dusk... the balls of flame are very pretty :p

I've used a few and stuck with the Rem 870DM, but they are discontinued and probably not going to made again. Hopefully someone starts making mags for them. I guess a DM870 wasn't a big seller for them.

Iron Horse Sentry 12 is an amazingly light recoiling pump shotgun. Never had a single issue with it at all and it's pretty reasonably accurate for slug out of the 10.5" barrel. Plus 5 and 8 rnd mags are easily available

No votes for the Mossberg 590m?

I saw a Sentry 12 on the weekend, very cool.

I never tried the Mossberg although I prefer standard Mosssberg shotguns over 870's. Problem with the Mossbergs is that the magazines were really expensive. Maybe not a big deal if you only need one or two but if you want more it ccan be limiting.
