My mag release on my G22 is not a one handed affair, especially for the girlfriend.

Will it soften after use, of do I need to look at an extended mag release?

Options?

i bought my G22 new in February and had the same issue, after going to the range a few times with it, it softened up very well

I had an extended mag release (Glock) installed in my G22 and like it QUITE a bit more than the stock one. Pretty hard to tell from the pic, but it does stick out considerably more than the stock mag release button, and even after it softens up, it's nice to be able to use one hand to drop the mag.

You may want to also consider the Glock extended slide release, I have one installed on mine as well.

The new ones tend to be tight. The only difference with the extended ones are they stick out farther, they are easier to engage. I have them on all my glocks, they are a great improvement over the stock mag release, especially if you shoot IPSC. The spring that holds it in place is the same regardless of what size mag release you use, it will soften with time. If you are familiar with breaking down a glock into parts, installing an extended mag release is a three minute job.

If you keep yours stock, don't worry, it will loosen up with use. Get out to the range and use it!

It is a good idea to get to know your Glock by getting an armourer DVD or book and doing the maintenance on it yourself. It is very straight forward and gives you the satisfaction of doing it yourself. There is a different non-glock extended mag release from a company based in Richmond that may work well for you.

Your right. By far the best publication out there is "The Complete Glock Reference Guide" by Ptooma Productions. Its very detailed, lots of pictures and is better than the Glock Armourer's publication, which can be found on net on some of the US gun forums from time to time. The Ptooma guide is far better though, its about $30US, but a must for anyone with a Glock and wanting to know how to do detailed stripping.
