So Partridge season is fast approaching and I have just purchased my first shot gun. I live in Central Ontario, and was curious, is there any mag restrictions for a pump-action 870?

I like to go out on my days off and shoot some clays with my tac shotgun, and on my walk to my "range" I usually come across a few Partridge along the way. Could I load up all 7 (or even only 3 without a plug) for my 1km walk back to the "range"?

hmmm I suspected as much.

How about .22lr? I can use that correct? (I know several groups did up north during the moose hunt, good thing to, cause if they didn't would have starved, since they never could find a moose XD )

You can plug your 870 to whatever capacity you want, it's easy. Here's a video showing how to remove/install the plug, should yours have one from the factory, I'm not sure about the tactical models:

It's legal in MB where I am to use rimfire and shotgun(no slugs :D ) on upland game birds, but it's probably best to check your regs in ON.

purchased the shotgun used and it only came with what you see...

I did check my reg book, which really didn't specify, just said "for further information call the place where we leave you on hold so long you just don't want to go out and hunt..." but I am paraphrasing.

Hoping to come across a seasoned Ontario guy who may know. But I DO appreciate your info, knowing that you can use rimfire is another reason to sell my wife on moving out there ;) !

In central Ontario you definitely have to have the shotgun magazine plugged for hunting so it will only take two rounds (max three with one in the chamber).

Nice guns!

Looks like you have a magazine tube extension. Not a big deal, you'd have to remove/loosen the clamp which holds the extension tube to the bbl. and then remove the extension tube. You'll have to cut a dowel the length of your whole tube plus extension, less the length of two 3" shells. Drop the dowel in the tube, reinstall everything and make sure you can't fit more than two 2 3/4" shells into the tube.

If you're taking the .22, I'd probably remove the light. Not sure how the ON Co's feel about jacklighting chickens. :D

Love all of that info, but with the light on the .22, I could use it for raccoon hunting, at night, with a registered hunting dog ;) oh and self defense from rabid pop cans in the dark out at the range, lots of fun. :D :dancingbanana:

Info is here:
2011 Ontario hunting regs, General ragulations, Page 23, third paragraph.

For partridge

.22 is fine. You can use a semi-auto with a 30 round mag if you want as the Criminal code is used for all other firearms. See page 23, paragraph 5 (note that paragraph 3 on page 23 only lists shotgun as magazine restrictions) Also page 79, first paragraph "firearms" and fourth paragraph "game birds".

Depending on your walk, the table on page 21, 2011 hunting regs, general regulations also applies as well as other acts and regulations.

And also the bag limit on page 80, small game.

Yes over a decade ago. Meanwhile I have been bowhunting since then and I did say this is my first shotgun, I didn't go out of my way to commit to memory all laws since I didn't even posses a PAL until this spring. So things are kinda fuzzy... I apologize for my stupidity.
