Mag tuning for SVI / STI

Hi All,

I have an SVI in .45 and although the mags are MUCH friendlier to load than my Para 14-45, I would like to learn how to "tune" my mags to hold about 10-1/2 rounds.

This will make them easier to load, and easier to seat when the slide's forward.

But, I'm not sure where to start... There are spring kits available, different followers, etc, but that doesn't seem like it is the same as "tuning".

Do I cut off spring coils? (probably not...)
Do I leave rounds in the mags? (probably not...)

How do I "tune" a mag, and how do I stay away from the dreaded 11-round mag??

Thanks!!

Sean

Well Kreech buddy, it's not like that for tuning a mag which usually refers to ensuring you don't have any problems with reliability. Sounds like you're talking about mag capacity which is an entirely different thing. You just need to make sure your block gives you a 10.5 round capacity.

I'd like to help, but I don't know what you have for Mags. If it were STI Mags, and they were factory 10 rounders, I'd suggest shaving the followers. I don't know if this is an option for SV 45 mags.

If it were a plugged full cap STI, I'd have to get it back and fix it as the plug needs mods.

Contact Bluedragon on here or call CRAFM. Frank's a good guy. He's the SV distributor and will understand the SV magazines that you currently have and be able to make the best suggestions.

That was really helpful, isn't that exactly what he is asking for help doing?

What my good friend meant to say,as Sean from Freedom eluded to. If it is an STI mag with a Arredondo follower, you can shave a slight bit off the follower giving you the little extra room to make seating a full mag easier. Be careful if you shave too much you have a prohibited magazine. I always buy one or two extra spacers in case I screw up.
