Magazine body for FN 49

Anyone know of a source for these, in Canada. The pinning on mine is failing resulting in a crack forming. I would like to get it replaced, so I can do some shooting this summer.

Failing that, how much luck have people had importing the body only from the US. It should be a simple process seeing as it is just a piece of sheet metal, but I figure that is just wishful thinking.

Lastly, do I need a smith to pin it or I can just go get a metal bracket welded inside myself ? I prefer this to the rivet system as the body does not suffer any integrity issues.

God bless the Canadian Border Service Agency and their rules. I had a similar question when looking for semi-auto rifle magazines. Not interested in getting into trouble. The gist of the readings and there were many in several places was: any magazine had to be declared openly by rifle type; unless it was patently clear that it can't hold more than 5 rounds, the follower has to be welded at zero capacity. Tough luck, no pins or rivets, BZZZT, welded or brazed. Misrepresenting imported gun parts on the declaration isn't wise either.

The border guys aren't techies, they are tax collectors with the added duty to protect Canada from all sorts of hazards. Those displays in the airports have some amazing stuff that people try to bring into the country. The CBSA will report you to the authorities if the item is on their bad things list. The RCMP forensics labs have a lot of work to do, and putting ten rounds into a magazine is a 30-second test you'll fail. Or the border guys can just refuse it, and send it back to the sender.

You should get your gunsmith to look at the magazine body. Can it be reinforced with a plate or added MIG/TIG welds? Then he puts in a new blocking stop.
