When I fire my M305 MOST of the time the magazine will disengage and drop down just enough to not feed the next round. Visually you can't even tell it has dropped. When I slap the mag home I've even tried to pull it out just to be sure it has seated properly so yes it is engaged. This happens on 3 different mags so I doubt it is the mag. Any chance the return(?) spring on the mag lever is to weak or should I look to something else. Many thanks for any advice.

  1. What type of stock do you have on your rifle?
  2. Does the magazine make an autoable "CLICK" noise when you have inserted it properly?
  3. Have you tried any other magazines to see if it is a deffective magazine?

Satain, (1)-the stock is synthetic, original (2) After inserting the front end of mag and rotating the rear into position, I smack it very hard to seat, then try to pull it out. It does not come out or disengage at this point. (3)- I have 3 mags (2x5 and a 20 pinned to 5)and all react the same. I'm unable to pull any of them out after insertion but after firing 1 or 2 rounds the mag just barely drops from the rear, is disengaged and will not feed the next round.

Hmmm...
Op-Rod guide might not be 2 spec. (Although unlikey) or the trigger pads may need to be ressed more to allow the trigger assembely to seat properly to the reciever (has been noted on a few new factory synthetic stocks). Even the magazine release mechinism could be faulty. Although this is to hard call with out any photo's or not being able to exam it. PM Hungry or M14Doctor and see if they arn't to busy to have them give you a 1 on 1 problem solve on this.
Still 1 question remains. Do you hear the "CLICK" when you insert the magazine?

.....Still 1 question remains. Do you hear the "CLICK" when you insert the magazine?

That is, do your hear the magazine catch snap into place? Does the magazine catch positively engage the lug on the rear of the magazine?

Yes there is an audible "click" on seating though I just noticed that I MAY have confused my "slapping" of the mag (and it making a click into the mag well) with the actual clicking of the mag catch making the engagement. I'll have to check on the next time out to see if this solves the problem. If not I'll be back for more help. Thanks very much for all the help you guys have given. By the way I wanted to try it out without ANY mods to see what it could do as stock, from the factory. My eyes don't focus as well anymore but with original sights I can consistently get 2 1/4 MOA at 100 with handloads. To be honest I'm very pleased as I rarely shoot from a bench and wanted to use it for prone/sit/stand stuff and rapids out to 200. Again, thanks for the help.
