Magazine is tough on brass as I cycle my bolt :(

A friend of mine helped me to install an AI detachable magazine, with a little bit of grinding and buffing its in and ready to rip.

I noticedwhen I was cycling rounds though it to make sure it feeds properly that the feed lips were digging into the brass a fair bit and scratching the case.

Has anybody on here ever experienced this with their AI magazine?

I was thinking of polishing the lips up a bit with a dremel tool.

How much grinding and where did you do it?! You may have the cases tipper up really far placing the pressure a smaller portion of the feed lips.

I use a file to brake the square edge on the feed lips on my AI and Accurate Mag mags.

The accurate mags seem to be worse then the AI but a little smoothing won't hurt.

I ground than smoothed the edges last night with a dremel, to me it seems to be chambering rounds far smoother than before.

The scratches on the casing and even the projectile looked as if someone ran a pocket knife down the length of the whole cartridge. Now it just looks like your normal marks from a casing that was ran through a magazine fed firearm.

This one is a 5 rounder, I wouldn't mind getting a hold of another one or 2.

Shooting in the morning! :)

My AI mag leaves deep scratches on my cases as well. I'm just going to knock down the edges of the feed lips as well when I get my rifle back from Casey. My solution as CanuckR pointed out, pickup some MDT poly mags and some PMAGS when they hit the shelves sometime this summer. The only drawback to the polymer mags is that it is limits the OAL of your reloads.

anytime ive had mag markings on my cases they weren't deep enough to damage brass and a quick tumble got rid of them. if that doesn't clean them up then you have jagged edges on the lips and taking a small fine file or emery cloth to the under side (that makes contact with brass) and you'll be good to go.
CanuckR mentioned MDT mags and i just ordered a couple. In my experience with magpul mags there is smoother feeding from polymer mag because there's no metal on metal.

I shot during this passed week and it ran like a Swiss clock. A little bit of grinding and smoothing did the trick. I also rounded the corners slightly on the 2 little things up front that I have since learned are for directing the round up to the chamber. :)

Light light grinding on the feed lips, corners rounded off a bit on the points at front. A small part of the issue is that we took out too much stock material initially so the magazine was sitting too high in order to function proper. She's good to go now.
