Hello All, I could use some help.

A wonderful old friend decided to give me his old Savage .32-20 Sporter instead of letting it be found or turned over those undeserving. It is a neat old rifle and appears to be in great shape, except he lost the magazine over the years. Can anybody help me find a magazine or two? As well, can anybody point me to where a person could purchase some ammunition for it? I have 8 unfired rounds of indeterminate age.

A follow up to this post or a private message would be greatly appreciated if you can.

Thanks in advance.

Hey, Bugsy. Welcome to the forum! Try giving Western Gun Parts a call. They will usually have what you're looking for. Not the least expensive, but sometimes they're the only place to find parts. You could also try Numrich Gun Parts in the US, but it's hard to say if they'll ship a magazine up here nowadays. Sometimes they will, and sometimes not. .32-20 ammo should be available through one of the larger gun shops or through one of the site sponsors at the top of the screen. It's still a pretty popular round these days.

Also check out Gunbroker. When I got my spare there was no permit stuff needed, double check it hasn't changed.

Keep in mind there are two different styles of magazine for this rifle. Early design protruded down from the bottom metal, and to remove the operator rocked it forward. Many mags of this style are rusting in the field somewhere due to the catch design.

Later they changed them to a spring lever catch on the rear of the mag well. These ones are easier to find, but seems there are fewer of these style rifles around.

My 32 shoots the 123gr Hornady quite well. If you can reload it may be your best bet. It is a fantastic cartridge for getting the kids used to something with a bit more punch than a 22 RF.
