Hey folks,

So I have an X95 on the way, going to be getting some extra magazines for it. I know it takes typical AR mags, but I've read certain ones don't work well with the X95.

Anyone have an experience with different mags with the X95 and have any recommendations?

I have used C Products Defense LAR-15 mags as well as PMAG Gen 2/3 (30 pinned to 5) and the Lancer Warfighter mags (30 pinned to 5). All have worked fine, but I primarily use the LAR15s because of the (still) legal ability to use it with the 10 rd capacity.

That's the first I've heard of that, the X95 is pretty well known for eating anything you feed it and then asking for seconds. I like lancers myself, but any commonly available AR mag will almost certainly work without issue.

Wait wait wait, 10 round magazines for 5.56 are legal? I looked up LAR15 and they call them "pistol" magazines? What about these mags allow them to be legal?

Thanks for the heads up, I read a review a guy left on Cabellas I think. He said the mag that came with the Tavor didn't work well.

No, not all 10 round magazines for .223/5.56 are legal. The LAR15s are in a grey area loophole due to them being designed for a pistol but just happen to work in an AR pattern rifle. The magazine has to clearly say that it is for a LAR15 pistol. The RCMP had a bulletin years ago stating this exception, but has since officially removed it from their website.

But you can still legally buy LAR15s at retailers (Tenda just had some recently restock). Firearm lawyers like Ian Runkle and Ed Burlew would say use with discretion. Runkle has a video on these on his YouTube channel.

Back to the original topic though - I agree with other posters - the X95 has a wide berth for magazine compatibility. The more likely and common scenarios you may encounter with the gun are: 1) don't ride the charging handle on the X95. 2) you may have issues with being able to seat a full magazine (pinned to 5 or LAR15) on a CLOSED bolt - in which case just reduce your rounds by 1.
