I have 2 John Mason SKS Steel Detachable 5 RD Magazine with Zytel followers...which is really a 4RD Magazine.
The SKS uses the magazine lips to feed along grooves on the bolt, so...to remove or insert the magazine you have to hold the bolt lever back with your right thumb, while pulling the mag release lever with your index finger of the same hand, and use your left hand to rock the magazine out of the rifle.
This also means that there is no way to close the bolt without chambering a round.
Later I discovered that I could reach into the magazine well while holding the chamber open with the other hand, and use my index finger to trip the bolt hold open in the magazine well into the up position...which for some reason this aftermarket magazine didn't do.
Note: Do not let the bolt close on your finger...it hurts like you wouldn't believe.
In use things got strange as I'd get an occasional stovepipe on the last round, or it would simply eject my last unfired round out of the rifle instead of chambering it.
I'm sending mine onto better homes and sticking with the original magazine that my SKS came with.
Your results may vary.
PS... the only benefit I could see to one of these is if we where allowed more then 5 shots in our semi auto rifles here in Canada, and could get a hi capacity magazine.
