"Magnet test" - fail

I would think they should have to take it back. I'm a member of 1 club that bans it, but its because its a baffled range, but I am a member of another club w/o any ammo restrictions.

I have shot a lot of MFS 223. 55 and 62 grain.

All steel cased. I have never had any with a steel core.

Thanks for all of the help guys. I'm a new shooter and I am learning what I can.

The explanation the retailer provided was the bi-metal(?) jacket was sticking to the magnet.
Because I was able to cut the bullet with hand tools, I will agree they are lead core.

I'll hold onto the ammo for now. the next time I'm at the range I will clarify once and for all with a range officer.

What range are you shooting at? If you are in Milton and are shooting at Guelph you can use steel core at the outside range. The no steel core is just for the indoor ranges.

"Bi-metal" = 2 metals together - namely lead and steel.

which means the jacket is made of steel........so the bullet has a lead core with a steel jacket over it.

so you can't shoot it there. They should be taking it back.

If paid by Visa, dispute the charge, and have it reversed. Then you'll find the seller more accommodating to refunds, returns, or discounts.

Yes, Galt does not allow steel core nor bi- metal. Too much damage to the bunker and AR-500 steel. Understanding that bi-metal is not the same as steel core, but a line had to be drawn otherwise we would need to cut every projectial to make sure it's not steel core. If it stick to magnet then don't shoot it at the range. I'm a member and not an executive at the range but I have seen so much damage caused by steel core hence why such policy.

Bi-metal jacket being copper plated steel. Nothing to do with the core.

This also depends on exactly what OP asked. If he asked if it was steel core, it is not, and he has no cause to dispute the sale.

If the store you ordered it from was close I would take it back to them . you belong to Burlington don't you . I do also . take a bullet puller and pull one and see if it's lead or if you can see the steel core inside it . I was at shooters choice one day and they have a range and the sign on the door said no MFS ammo . if they don't take the ammo back I would post the name of the store on here. period . I would love to know who they are and I'm sure others on this site would like to know also.
