Ok, Ive been using an Aimpoint type for abit its ok. I was wondering about something with alittle magnification. This is going on a 10.5 inch shorty. Was gonna go with the larue scope mount for the rail. ANy recommendations for scope choiceS? Would like illuminated reticle. Willing to look at cheap to good options depending on price. Whats best eye relief? Should I look at 2-4 inches? Or more? What sort of magnification should I look at? 1-5x? How bout FOV? any tips here? Any brands to avoid? TIA:D

3.4 power optics, 14.5" barrel.

Elcans are pieces of ####.

Short Dot or 4x ACOG w/ Dr Optic are the only options I'd run on a shorty if I wanted magnification.

4th Gen and up Elcans are fine and it's not like they are getting used for combat here anyway. The Elcan Spector looks like the stuff for a 14.5" to me:

Elcans are pieces of s**t.

Sound like a flat empty comment. What's so ####ty about it? I've worked with it for 15 years in weather such as heavy storm to heavy snow, summer and winter. i've jump with it and beat the heck out mine cleaning it with a dirty peace of shirt and it never left me down. a bit bulky but the angle widht is not bad and a magnification 3.4 or 3.7 if i recal is all you need for an AR. As for the price, i never bought one myself so i dont know if it's worth. But for sure the term piece of sh++t is relative.

Many individuals who have served (like Big Red) and had to use them have varying opinions. For range use Elcan's are fine. The earlier Gens (1,2,3) had an array of problems that seem to have been addressed. The specter DR however looks and seems promising.

ELCAN optics have always been great.

It is the mount that is it's weak point. The external adjustment idea sucks.

I had the mount on my ELCAN "go south" in the middle of a Service match.Would hate to have that happen in a combat situation.....

I use a Leupold MK IV 1.5 X 5 MRT with the Illum. SPR reticle.

If price is no object, get the S&B Short Dot.

SKBY.

It's interesting how I've never seen a personally purchased Elcan overseas. Guys can use whatever they want, Eotechs, Aimpoints, ACOG, S&B, Leupold, etc but I've NEVER seen anyone with a choice run an Elcan.

The glass is fine, the mount isn't. The Spectre looks like it has potential to be a great optic, IF they've sorted out the mount.

The Elcan Spectre looks to be more junk - even if they have fixed the mount, which I doubt - they've gone an put a POS ARMS throw lever mount on it.

Ah yes, I forgot about the ARMS mount.

It confuses me why they are still making ARMS mounts on new optics for SOCOM when the end user will have them changed out for Larue anyways.

How much would I be looking at for a MK4 1.5x5 MRT? Any good sources in Canada for them? On the Schmidt Bender Marksman any idea on price?
