Hi: I have a lot of magnum primers to use up so has anyone used magnum rifle primers with low velosity cast bullet loads made with light loads of fast powder[eg. 700X etc] Thank You Dan

I have used mag primers with reduced cast bullet loads a lot using Unique, Universal, Titegroup, SR4756, 700x & others. I tried same brass, bullet & powder weight for a reg primer & mag primer. I shot these over my chrony and there was very little velocity difference if any at all. I would still suggest to start at the minimum & work your way back up just to be on the safe side.

I use magnum primers when I load cast rifle loads because I have lots and it simplifies logistics. I can't exactly run to the store every time I change loads, so I work up loads with the primers I have. I load cast in .308, .30/06, .375 Ruger, .375 H&H, .375 Ultra. I have loaded cast in .45/70 and .458, but I don't have one at the moment. I've had good luck with SR 4759, and 2400 in the .308 and .30/06, but mostly I use Unique in cast bullet rifle loads, which is user friendly in large cases and again simplifies my logistics.

Magnum primers are about the powder, not the bullet. They burn a bit hotter for a bit longer. They're for lighting hard to ignite powders and cold weather shooting.
