I was wondering if anyone is using Magnum Primers in their .223 instead of BR4's?

I know some are using the CCI Magnum primers in 6BR instead of the regular BR4's while other loads are using the regular BR4's. Could the same thing be applied to other cartridges or would 6BR be considered a Magnum style round with it's short fat case?

My usual load is CCI BR4, 26grns Varget, 69grn Sierra MK all in a Winchester case.

My thought, since BR primers are becoming as rare as hens teeth, was to reduce the powder volume and use a CCI Magnum primer instead.

Any thought's? Load data you have used/are using?

Thanks

I have always used the CCI magnum without any problem. I generally use ball powders though. If you have a chronygraph, you may just want to see if the magnum primers are making a difference, otherwise don't worry about it.

I've used them without issue as well, with h335,varget, and re15, but I'd definitely back off and re-work up your load a bit if you switch that element.

Well it turns out I got a hold of 3000 BR4's today :D but I think I will grab some Magnum primers and try them out along side the BR's.

Thanks for the answers guys, and I will definitely start low and work up as with any change in loads I do.
