I have a remington 870 a-tac that takes 2 3/4- 3" shells. I just picked up some remington 3" magnum buck shot and on the box it states to shoot these you must have a shotgun that can shoot 3" magnum to shoot them. So my question is can I shoot them through the one i have or do i need a magnum barrel?

will work fine

3" is "Magnum" and 3.5" is super Magnum.

On some Rem870 barrels, it says "use 2 3/4 or 3" shells in magnum receivers. Use only 2 3/4 in all others" Might want to check on that......

That is only for if you have an old wingmaster reciever chambered for 2.75" shells only. Even then, they'll fire safely in a 3 inch barrel, but will get stuck in the ejection port, after the shell opens.
