As a firearm enthusiast, we know that the .500S&W is more powerful... But, The 45-70 cartridge does look a little more badass. :p
 
I am enjoying the 45-70, Have tried loads from 300 cast 25 gr. 4198 to 420 cast 46 gr RL7 mild to wild, even 500 grain cast. The 45-70 is so versatile, also i have the Marlin 1895ss to share the shooting duties
 
One thing to consider is that the 45-70 is a rifle cartridge so any factory loads or book loads will be designed for a long barrel. Don't get me wrong though...bragging about your handgun taking the same bullets as the guy complaining about his lever gun's recoil would be well worth it....
