Does anyone have any experience or opinion re Magnum Research's Baby Eagle (Smaller version of the Desert Eagle) in 9mm. Would appreciate any input.
Thanks.

It is said to be a CZ copy, I had a close look and feel very comfort in hand a great balance. haven't shot one yet but it is a CZ proven design and should not go wrong. Finish is great. Many people love it and I haven't heard any bad feed back.

Very nice guns...comparable in every way to a regular CZ75/85 but with the
'heft' of the SP-01...
I don't think there's much to choose between the IMI units and the better CZ
guns..personal preference.
I ended up trading mine, and keeping my SP-01 so that my 85Combat wouldn't get lonely!:D

My wife shoots one for IPSC. Solid, reliable gun. Light trigger, slim grips, ideal for a slightly smaller hand.

Other than screwing it up with some bad reloads, haven't had it give any trouble. Well, not quite true, it came w/o a roll pin holding on the right-side decocking/safety level. I got a new pin put in, which promptly came out and we lost the lever. It's an "extra" in any case, so still functional, but that was annoying.

i have shot the baby-eagle in .40 and it is very nice. accurate and minimal recoil due to wieght. can't go wrong with it really. it's my friends favorite gun out of his collection.

they are good guns, but I think they are more expensive than the original CZs they are supposed to be clones of ;)

One thing to check into, I heard a while ago that the line was being discontinued, in favor of some polymer style gun - if that's true, that might affect availability of parts and support down the line. Also look into availability of things like extra mags, holsters, etc - they aren't as popular as the CZs in that respect.

You can probably get a cz-85Combat for the price of a 9mm BB, and I think that would be a better choice (I haven't really had a lot of experience with the cz-sp01, so I can't comment on that).

The baby eagle is not a "clone" of a CZ in the traditional sense, it has its design differences. One difference is the grip shape, the BE has a nice "bump" on the bottom of the grip which fits my hand better than the CZ. If you are going to get a 9mm, look for an older one with the extended slide release. They had the slide release exactly right, and then shortened it. Now you have to move your hand to release the slide, with the old release you could maintain your grip. The best example of this pistol was marketed by Uzi. If you can find one of those, snag it - the fit and finish are a couple of cuts above the IMI model.

I have recently picked up a 9mm BE, primarlily for use by my kids. We have only had a chance to use it a few times but it is a very comfortable gun to shoot, accurate and reliable. It has a polygonal barrel and I haven't tried lead in it, but plated seem to shoot fine, without keholeing. The DA trigger pull is quite long if you have small hands.

I have not yet had a chance to compare it to a CZ SP01 but I am curious.

One reason I got it is because it does have a decocker, easier for the kids when starting IPSC rather than dropping the hammer manually. (another reason is I got a good deal on it)

I am looking around for mags and I believe that CZ mags will work, and I would appreciate if anyone can confirm this.

Thank you guys for all your valuable input. I've been told the new crop of BEs no longer have a polygonal barrel. Checked out the barrel at the gun store. Sure enough: rifled barrel. But the pistol feels great as does the trigger. Think I'm going to get this one anyway.

if planning to shoot IPSC with it, make sure a holster is availiable, 8 yrs ago that was our problem, no commercial holster, have to made order. but the gun is very good, accuracy, finish and reliability. what we had before was the Jericho 941F ( frame mounted safety), of course it avaliable in many diff. variants.

I think they are made my Tangfolio and the parts are shipped loose to IMI for assembly.

I can attest to that. I had a UZI-marked Baby Eagle in 9mm that I purchased new. It had poly-rifling and fixed night sights.

The fit & finish were excellent, and definitely a cut above the CZ75 pre-B and SP01 that I've also owned.

Accuracy was absolutely phenomenal (also much better than both the 75 & SP01.) I actually sold it because it was so boringly accurate. Anyone who shot it couldn't miss with the damn thing.

This is a few weeks old Baby Eagle 9mm barrel. It seems it is rifled, but I have no idea how a polygonal looks like.

I have quite large hands, but I like the grip. That was the reason I bought it, when I hold it at first I felt that it was made to measure. :)
It is beautiful, but to be hones most of the handguns are beautiful.

I have serious problems with the reliability: I have a lot of FTF. :((( The front of the bullet is on the ramp, the rear is in the mag. If I give the slide a little push, it feeds that cartridge. I've sent through it 8 boxes of WinClean 147gr ammo, and I had 4 FTF. I didn't see any problem with Federal Hydrashok, but I'm not a millioner, and I had just 2 boxes (2x20pcs) of it.
This is my first handgun, and I will demote it to paperweight if someone doesn't have an idea what causes this problem. :(

maybe just needs time to break in? try some american eagle..cheap and ussually pretty reliable...I dont like WIn clean..to much flash.

I hope this problem goes away after a few other boxes. I usually by my ammo in the shop at the range. I will check if they have other clean ammo. I don't care flash, but I care lead-poisoning. :)
But if this problem stays, would a stronger recoil spring help?

lead poisoning? clean your hands after shooting, use ventilation at the range.. wear gloves..you got nothing to worry bout...

I dont care for Win Clean as out of my USP its almost blinding...but alot of people do like it...

FWIW, I have a BE in 9mm. I've had some FTF issues when the gun was new. The rounds chambered and there were good primer strikes (it happened with Fiochhi and American Eagle, all 115 FMJ ammo). The rounds would go off when I rechambered them. Beautiful gun, nice balance for me, good trigger and accurate but the FTF was bothering me. After about 1500 rounds, I did not experience this problem anymore and the gun is still reliable and accurate other than the fact the roll pin above the trigger keeps drifting out despite using different types of loc-tite on it. BTW, not all BE barrels are polygonal, mine isn't.....
