**** revolver) I have ever seen!! I was in Edmonton's WSS today looking at revolvers and the clerk asked me if I wanted to see a really big revolver. I said sure expecting him to pull out a big blackhawk. He brought a large box out from the back, laid it on the counter, flipped the lid open and laughed at the expression on my face . To begin with the barrel is about 10" long, massive frame but what really blew me away was an unfluted cylinder as big as a coffee mug. I have never seen a SA revolver chambered in 45-70 but this beast is. 4 1/2 lbs of SS, beautiful crisp trigger pull along with an awesome amount of cool. Naturally I wanted it but having just spent $500.00 on supplies, a safe full of goodies at home, there was no way I needed another safe queen, but the cool factor was almost overwhelming until my common sense, who happened to be standing beside me, told me to stop drooling on the counter and let the nice clerk take the gun and put it away. Fast forward to reality. I left the store without it but this may be one I regret leaving behind. For those so inclined the retail was $1,600.00.

As far as big guns go...

I've been seriously tempted on more than one occasion, they have quite the accessories for it as well (Magnum research, not Wild West). And they look good scoped. Reportedly the recoil is quite decent as the thing ways a TON and soaks up the recoil. As my good friend puts it: "If you don't hit whatever your shooting at, you can always beat them with it"

Sorry for the image size, but I like those grips!

TKV - have you ever fired that thing? We're driving back to Yellowknife tomorrow and I know that during the 1800km drive I am going to dream of that monster. To make matters worse the 45-70 is one of my favorite calibres. :(

I had the pleasure of firing one of those a good friend owns. The recoil in a factory offering was fairly tame, the "friend". slipped one of his favorite 45-70 XLR loads into it, amongst the others. O LE SHT big difference, the flame from the muzzle lit up the whole shack, the recoil, all I can say is WOW!!

No other reason needed other than it's fun. I have access to one and shoot it fairly often, never ceases to bring a smile to my face. It's pretty accurate too! With factory loads the recoil is less than expected, handloads are another matter alltogether (and make the smile wider).

the first day i ever shot a handgun after trying 38 spl i tried a bfr in 500 sw it was at a local introductory cowboy shoot i just pulled the trigger then wondered why my hands were above my head

I drooled over these when they were first announced. I didn't have the cash to embellish my daydream and I never followed up on it. Pretty cool and unique handgun, though. The reality, for me, is that I wouldn't shoot it enough to warrant/justify owning one. I see it like the S&W 500 or 460 which are great guns made even better when you know someone who owns them and they'll let you shoot them as long as you pay for ammo. ;)
