Last weekend I went to Gorilla Surplus to see how much their military surplus ammo cans and noticed a set of Magpul front and rear BUIS for $40. The store caters to Airsoft and there are a bunch of cheap fake red dot sights but I never seen a knock off of Magpul BUIS before. The clerk seemed rather insulted that he would sell fakes when I said I never seen a pair of Magpul BUIS sold so cheaply (they are normally about $40 for the front and about $60 for the rear). I checked them out and something felt different (maybe cheaper plastic?) than the Magpul BUIS I own.

My Google search says that Magpul has a Chinese division that caters to the Asian Airsoft market.

Obviously I would never go cheap and buy Airsoft sights for my real firearms but how reliable would possible Magpul knock-off BUIS be?

I bought a set for a .22 i had. They are pretty cheap, one of them wouldn't fit on a picatinny rail as they were too tight. The rear sight had 2 apertures, but it was so lose that it would flop back and forth between them. I would say don't bother with them.

If you get the 'real' Magpul PTS they're essentially the same as the original ones only the spring weight to open and close them is a bit lighter, neither can be mounted on a gas block. I've tried both extensively for normal range use, and never had a problem with either, for the weight; on a .22 you cant go wrong other than the PTS ones use a plastic front sight post, but thats a $5 fix. Also the PTS ones come with an allen key to adjust the grub screw on the front sight to lock the post in place, the $100 factory one did not (2 points for team PTS).
Ive never looked at generic airsoft ones, of which Im sure there are many.
The price of the factory is totally outrageous when you consider they are made out of $1 worth plastic, and if you watch the magpul tactical carbine video the clean shaven instructor guys rifle's plastic rear sight flops back and forth thru parts of the video, but he's relying on his optics so nobody seems to care...I bet that's the $100 rear sight too. At least if a $40 airsoft sight breaks you can just chuck it with a clear conscience.
