I'm in the market for a new collapsible buttstock and find myself drawn to the design of the Magpul CTR and MOE stocks. There is about $50 difference (on Questar's website) between the two... Call me thick but I can't see any difference between the Magpul CTR and MOE other than that the CTR has a "supplemental friction lock system that minimizes wobble".... Is "wobble" a noticeable problem with the MOE? Are there any other differences that anyone knows of that makes up for the $50 or so difference in price between the MOE and the CTR?

Hi,

Yes the MOE has wobble and it bothers me once I have tried something like the CTR. If I recall correctly there is a sling pivot attachment on the CTR but not on the MOE.

I bought mine at Brownells. It ended up cheaper than buying Canadian especially with the exchange rate.

For me the extra money it was worth it to eliminate the wobble.

The MOE will wobble about as much as any other AR stock(assuming matching buffer tube/stock sizing).

The CTR friction lock makes for a more solid feel. Does it matter? Personal pref really.

Thanks guys. So just to clarify, the MOE has about as much wobble as the average collapsible buttstock and the CTR has no noticeable wobble? Is that a fair statement?

yes, if you engage the friction lock. It auto unlocks when you hit the release to change the LOP on the stock, and then you can click it back "on" (the way I grip the CTR, my finger is on the friction lock as I slide it, so once its in position I click the friction lock back closed)

It pretty much FEELS like a solid stock, very solid feeling.

I run both. CTR on my Dlask and MOE on my daughters Norc M4.
Guess I got lucky on the Norc buffer tube 'cause I have zero wobble on the MOE.
Can't tell the difference other than the additional sling mounting options on the CTR.

I personally don't notice any difference between the CTR and the MOE for wobble. Both fit my guns like condoms, no wobble. I assumed the secondary latch on the CTR was to make sure it (edit: it being the primary latch) wasn't accidentally unlocked/moved. That latch slows me down if I want to adjust lop on the fly, and that's why I sold my CTRs and switched to the MOEs. I'm happier and saved a few $.
When I am shooting I cant tell the difference, until I need to make an adjustment, then I'm happy I have the MOE stock.

So what I'm hearing is that the friction lock on the CTR can compensate for a sloppy buffer tube, but if the buffer tube is in spec then the user wouldn't notice much difference between the CTR and MOE, other than the sling attachment point?

I got the CTR in FDE for my deployment to come in A'stan this summer.

Sorry to hijack, but I got the milspecs one. My guess is that it will fit on the actual C7 buffer tube in replacement of the cheap collapsible one provide...?

I can't try it before my deployment since I'm no longer in the military, but will be issued the C7 as one of my service weapons.

Thanks gents!
