I want to change out the bottom metal on one of my factory stock 700’s in 223 with a drop in application if possible that uses AICS mags, as I have bunch. I have a legacy in another stock and I think it’s a alright product but at $80/mag I’d rather go this route.

From what I’ve found online, this wasn’t designed for 223 and requires slight in letting on the standard (SA) version.

• Short Action – Works with Magpul 7.62 AC magazines. Requires Magpul Hunter 700 stock (sold separately). Includes one five-round PM 7.62 magazine (not shown).
• Standard – Works with AICS-pattern long-action magazines. Requires Magpul Hunter 700L stock (sold separately). Includes one Magpul PMAG 5 AC™ L Standard for .30-06 based cartridges.
• Magnum – Works with Magpul 700L Stock and long-action .300 Win. Mag. AICS pattern magaines. Requires Magpul Hunter 700L stock (sold separately). Includes one Magpul PMAG 5 AC L Magnum for .300 Win. Mag. based cartridges.

Anyone with experience using one on a 223? AICS (MDT polymer) mags work? Pros/cons?

Mostly looking for information on the magpul but open to other comparable options. It needs to be a application that requires little inletting as for now I’m playing with a cheap hogue stock I’ve stiffened up and bedded but I’ve read the stock is to weak to open up much. It’s actually pretty decent once it’s reinforced up front to keep the barrel free floating and I like the rubberized finish for a hunting rig. Figure if I’m going to wreck a stock it might as well be a cheap one.

223 MDT plastic mags work in my magpul hunter stock + bottom metal rem700 without issue.
It's not going to be a drop in solution for anything but the magpul stock afaik, doesn't matter if it's 308 or 223

That's as helpful as I can be, I don't know how much inletting will be required. I am curious though, as it could be something I do as well ... down the road.

Thanks, your first sentence answers the question that was holding me up. I’m not worried about a little bit of inletting as long as I know it’s going to work.
