I am looking to pick up a magpul hunter for my 700 short action in .223 and I'm curious how people are feeling about the stocks.

Not much mention of them on here about performance.

I know to use it in .223 I will need to pick up an AI .223 mag but beyond that I haven't heard much.

Any opinions would be great.

Thanks

I am also in the market for one. I will be putting a heavy barrel 243 in mine. I have watched alot of videos and for the price i think its a good buy. I wanted free floating and a box mag. I am not sold on a chassis setup and the price jumps quite a bit. Youtube has alot of content.

For the price its a good starting point, if you have used the magpul shotgun stuff you know the kind of "feel" you are getting into.

I was looking at them, one thing that would bug me is that when you need to clean barrel. You will have to remove the cheek riser piece.

It looks ok, seems to have a decent bedding system in place. Cant hurt, wouldn't be a terrible starter to get you in the game.

You wont feel bad about dragging it through the bush and getting it marked up or trying camo schemes painted on it lol. If your rifle is currently in a original stock unbedded, it wont hurt it ! lol

I was thinking of dropping one on my SA 223 for yotes. Kinda fits the bill of what they made it for, hunters who like to plink at the range and look tacticool.

A huge ergonomic improvement over my factory stock. My rifle was half moa or better on a good day to begin with so I did not notice a big change in accuracy. No mag box on mine, I am happy with the trapdoor mag for my purposes.

I've been using one for a while. Best bang for the buck out there. Can't beat the DBM for the price. Everything is a true drop in fit, everything just comes together perfectly. There's a little plasticy feel to it though, especially in the mostly hollow fore end. Best bedding block I've seen out there, and I've had B&C and H&S to compare. I'm moving my current setup in a McMillan A5, waiting on some pillars to finish the job. After that the Magpul and DBM will go on the EE. There's better out there, but you'll have to spend 3x to 4x the money, easy, to notice a difference. I've been shooting out of the Magpul, then from the McMillan, and finally back to the Magpul waiting on finishing my setup. Is the McMillan better? Of course. Like 4x better? Not exactly. Getting .200 to .400 MOA from both stocks. The heavier McMillan handles recoil better, the lighter Hunter 700 would probably be better to take out in the bush.

I got one in flat dark earth with Magpul's magazine well bottom metal, very good stock for the money. Completely free-floats your barrel (my Hogue stock would contact the heavy barrel at the front if shooting from a bag or something) and the aluminum bedding block is amazing. It comes with spacers in the box and you can purchase different cheek combs to fully adjust your length of pull and the height that your cheek rests on the stock. It's an all around great light stock and for under $350 CAD it is amazing. Plus you have M-Lok slots on both sides and under the forend so you can attach a very secure M-Lok bipod mount up there and M-Lok QD sling mounts on either side. You can remove a tab on each side of the back of the stock and put in QD cups if you have a sling with QD attachment points on both ends. The Magpul bottom metal uses the specifications to accept AICS magazines but Magpul already makes 5 and 10 round PMag 7.62 ACs that are way cheaper than the equivalent AICS magazines. They are around fifty and sixty bucks, respectively.

People have started using these stocks in high-end competitions and winning...

Anyone know if Magpul plans on making these for Tikkas? I've had the Magpul 870 stock and fore end and was happy with it. I'd also go with the Hunter instead of a chassis to save weight. Most chassis systems out there seem to easily hit the 4lbs mark.

In my opinion, I think that they might. Just like their shotgun accessories, they originally made their stocks for the more popular 870s and the year after made them for the Mossbergs. The Hunters are new from them for the Remington 700 short and long actions but I'm pretty sure they'll be making them for other actions in the future as well.
