I have a Ruger American Ranch G2 that I am planning on setting up like a scout rifle. I am not a big fan of the stock though. I am considering a Magpul Hunter stock as I don't want to add too much weight and I am not interested in a chassis for this gun.
Is the MP Hunter worth it?

What caliber is your gun and which magazines do you want to use with it? The Ruger stocks use AICS pattern magazines.
The new Hunter lite Stock looks pretty nice... :)

I have a Hunter stock on my 10/22. It's "ok" but not great. I've been looking at the new MDT Field stock. A little more expensive but it's leagues better.

I have a Hunter stock on my American Ranch(Gen 1 rotary mag) in .223. It's a big improvement over the Ruger stock, much more solid. I initially had issues with feeding from MDT AICS mags, the bolt would not pick up rounds from the mag reliably. I somewhat solved this by modifying the MDT mag so it seated slightly deeper, but it still wasn't 100% reliable. I waited until the MagPul .223 AICS mags came out, and they solved all my issues. I also found the .25 cheek riser too tall for my ring and scope setup, but solved this with a .00 cheek riser from a MagPul SGA shotgun stock.

I will say it is heavier than the original stock but I think it's worth it.

I owned a magpul stock for my ruger ranch briefly.
It was a marginal improvement on the factory stock in terms of accuracy but in my opinion, way too heavy for the meager gains.

I stiffened the forend of my factory stock and it ended up being much the same.

I have since migrated all my ranch rifles to the MDT LSS XL which cant be much heavier than the magpul and is much more ergo. Collapsible stock, m-lok channels, stanag magwell,

But if i take it hunting, it goes back in the factory stock cuz its crazy light.
