Magpul MBUS quality ?

They definitely won't be breaking on you, very solid. With that said, I don't throw my rifle against the ground or anything. I'm assuming you'll be using them at the range or for service rifle.

Get the PTS ones, they're cheaper (half price or less) and just as good for range use, I have both and other than the front sight post being plastic and slightly less spring pressure on the fold up feature, you'd never know the difference. Also if the front post issue bothers you that much its a standard $6 AR post.
Actually now that I think of it, my full price ones have no grub screw to hold the front sight post stationary, the hole is there, but no screw. The PTS ones do, and they even came with an Allen key...

Forget the plastic and get yourself a set of Troy BUIS. You won't regret it.

+1.

I know a lot of guys are reticent to say anything bad about Magpul, but the only plastic BUIS I would ever use is a stationary rear BUIS like the Diemaco one, and even then, only if I was going for C7 LCF or if I didn;t have anything else on hand.

Magpul BUIS, in my personal opinion, is plastic junk. I've owned three sets now, all of them real (not PTS airsoft crap) and all of them had too much side to side movement on the rear sight. The tolerance, side to side, at the hinge is just not as good as on a metal BUIS set.

I guess if you only shoot at 100m or less and will only ever use these in an emergency if your battery powered optic dies during a match they might be OK.

In my case, however, I zero my BUIS to a gun and sometimes use them as primary sights, and also as a reference point for zero-ing co-witness optics like Aimpoints or Eotechs. I need repeatable consistency, so the magpul stuff had to GO.

Troy makes a great BUIS set, but I have two complaints about them. Firstly, I'm not a fan of having to push a button to deploy the BUIS as in a timed CQB or IPSC 3 gun match, this wastes valuable seconds. Secondly, I'm not a fan of their fine aperture. The concavity is reverse to GI sights and I find them harder on the eyes to use.

I know a lot of guys will disagree with me, but I like the bog-standard steel YHM rear BUIS. It's solid, has a proper GI aperture set, and has a nice big windage knob that is easy to use with shooting gloves. Also, if you use loctite on the screw, it mounts very solid. The parts that matter are made of 4140 steel and it can really take a licking. It also locks in the up position so that zero cannot change from shot to shot. I would like the ARMS 40L better if it weren't for the lack of a locked-up feature.

If you only ever shoot at distance, the KAC buis and the Matech BUIS are also very good and compact, but neither has dual aperture so both get an epic fail for CQB scenario shooting IMHO.

Anyhow, this advice is free, but the YHM is an amply capable BUIS and it's under $100 to boot. I think Fabsports has them for around $90.

Ill throw in my 2 cents ....

I have to agree that the metal BUIS are the way to go. I like the TROY as well .. but the Magpul are good for their price and functionality. I especially like the karate-chop action to get them in play ;)

The TROY are double the price but worth it if you intend to use them as primary sights. For the rifles with the A2 front post I have to say that a LMT fixed rear BUIS is a great option and can co-witness with most optics.

Dont shy away from the Magpul they are good for their role (secondary) ;)

magpul BUIS

I too have had several sets and not been disapointed...You get what you pay for--a $140. for a set of sights that will likely not get used that often as everyone runs some sort of optics as main sight. At least half the people in my club, I have never seen them use irons if they have an optic. Value for amount paid is great, however a good set of Midwest,ARMs or troy are sweeeeeet irons in the $250.-$300. range

Mine works well. I had an expensive metal one, I cant remember the brand. but it was a popular one - it had a lot of slop and wouldn't go down unless you pushed the side button down - kind of a pain and a couple guys sheered theirs off.

I like my magpul and I've noted a lot less slop than the old one. My shooting is usually less than 100m tho - but is "as fast as I can" type thing. - I dont bother with the smaller aperture.

I have noted that it's popped up a couple of times from its case and without me really knowing, or caring much.

I hope I dont have to really use a BUIS one day - because iron sights suck ass.

Why dont they glow like my Glock sights? - regardless... my magpul BUIS is good to go.

My bro's 2nd gen MBUS's metal front sight post broke off inside the plastic front sight adjustment tool. Luckily the incident was all recorded and we're waiting for a reimbursement/replacement response to the letter + video footage that was forwarded to Magpul from the Canadian dealer he bought the set from.

This makes the second MBUS I've seen destroyed -- Over-torqued my 1st gen rear MBUS last year, totally my fault.

The regular Troys are nice, the Troy micros are nice to, just abit smaller.
