Owing both, I've found the grip angle and drop to be quite different in feel.

Here are photos comparing the two stocks.

The 870 grip is extended/elongated more, with less of a drop angle than the 590.
This also actually causes the 870 to inherently have a 1/2 inch longer LOP despite both having no spacers installed. The grip itself is a bit thinner too.

I personally find the 590 SGA more comfortable, so much that I may remove the 870. Although still comfortable on its own, but less so when directly compared to my two 590 SGAs.

Interesting, thanks for posting that. My favourite stock has always been the Hogue short LOP, for my Remington 870P. I ASSumed I would have the same experience when I decided to switch over to Mossberg's equivalent; 590a1. Very different; in fact it was too short and uncomfortable, which led me to try the SGA. I'll never look back.

Yeah, it's curious why and how different they are. Excuse the super scientific quality pics, but I tried.
The pics are all with the ends of the receivers lined up equal. Done to show the stocks differences only.
The LOP looks vastly different in the pics, but consider the trigger positioning of both guns the balance is almost covered.

I added a overview vertical photo showing more variances.

On its own the 870 SGA is mega comfortable. Its only in direct comparison to the 590 SGA where I see and feel the 590 as superior.

I have a Hogue short LOP 870 stock that I was considering replacing the SGA with, but the gun has ghost rings and the SGA suits that set up. Where as I was keeping the Hogue for a future bead sight shotgun as I feel that setup is better for that stock.
