Magpul SL handguard on a Norinco CQA

Just a heads up, this did not fit on my 10.5 CQA.
I tried clearancing a few areas to no avail. It felt like the heatshield was too narrow, so I removed it - even without the heat shield I could not get it to snap in place.
My theory is that the barrel is too large in diameter for this slimmer handguard.

If someone successfully mounts one on a Norinco I'd love to hear how. I'm usually successful in fitting parts.
Otherwise consider yourself warned.
 
Good to know, thanks. I was considering picking up one for my 14.5 CQA as I like the way it looked covering the delta ring. I'd be curious to know if anyone managed to get one installed on a 14.5 CQA with or without any modifications, but then again I've read that most hand guards need to be fitted/filed to fit onto the CQA, I guess I lucked out with my Guntec Quad Rail as that went on without any modifications just a lot of brute strength.
 
Those extensions that cover the rings front and back make it a ##### to file down for clearance. They cover up where you need to work.

My theory is that the barrel nut was in the way. Will try again later when Im not pissed off.

where may I ask did you buy your Guntec one from...I see them in the US but cant find any one in Canada that sells them?

I totally lucked out snagged it from eBay from someone in BC and didn't even had to worry about ITAR. I know what you mean I couldn't find an retailers for Guntec either up here.

That's interesting to know that the extensions are kinda in the way if you need to file, let us know how it goes when you give it another shot.
 
Any updates on the MOE SL Hanguard on a 14.5 Norinco CQA. I almost pulled the trigger buying one today as it didn't even cross my mind that it may not fit my Norinco.

Also, what about the regular Magpul MOE Handguard? since that handguard does not cover the delta ring, has it been a problem getting it on too?

Also a major problem. Some people have made it fit with generous filing/dremel work. I never did get mine to fit. I found out later that my delta ring was undersized and ended up replacing it with a DPMS delta ring. No problems fitting any handguard after that.

Hmm interesting, so just buying a new barrel spring, barrel snap ring and the delta ring should fix the problem? Seems like little money vs the hassle of filing/dremel for me anyway.

Anyone come across any handguards that fit with zero issues?

was a pain in the ass and needed a second person to help me, but i got the regular magpul MOE HG on my norc 14.5"

I did dremel a lot, and did muscle a lot. If I could do it again I'd replace the Norc delta ring and have a much easier time. But now that its on there I'm going to leave it till it lights on fire.
 
Thanks boys, I think opting to change the delta ring may be the route I'll go. Now for a noobie like myself to research how to do that and find a delta ring to buy.
 
I just put a B5 Systems handguard on my 14.5". Its very slim and light weight and about the same price as magpul. It went on without much trouble at all. They are hard to find in Canada though.
 
You should also be aware that some have had issues removing the front sight/gas block from the rifle. Mine only took 10 minutes with the proper punch, a front sight bench block, and a big frakkin' hammer.
 
Just wanted to update on trying to get the Magpul SL Handguard on the Norc 14.5. I bought the handguard and milspec delta ring and brought it into the Gunsmith. After waiting with no response I called and he stated he had a hell of a time even swapping out the delta ring and even after installing the mil spec ring is having a hard time getting the handguard on. So it appears even this solution isn't working as he's having to still dremel the handguard to get it to fit.
