Magul PRS Buttstock on Troy MCS: buffer + spring needed?

Newbie question.

Installing a Magpul PRS buttstock on to a Troy MCS stock.

Is it ok to install the buttstock with just the receiver extension tube without the buffer and buffer spring since it's not used on an m14? or is there an actual benefit to having the buffer / spring in the buttstock.
