as the title says, can i ship my friend in england one of my air pistols and it be legal?

the guns in question are the Crossman .357 four or six inch barrel or the imitation beretta 92fs blowback model.

Check the UK laws regarding the energy level it has to be on a FAC (Fire Arms Cretificate), roughly equal to our 500 fps rule.

IIRC it's 12 foot/ pounds energy for a rifle, 6 fpe for a pistol, and they are quite uptight about it.

Best to chrony them and crunch the numbers before rather than after.

I sent a benjamin sheridan HB22 to a fellow airgunner in the UK a couple years ago with no problems at all. Ship with a tracking number and your set. Amazingly he got it in a week. The plane must have left the same day or something. The shipping cost was a killer but certain airguns can be very expensive over there so he didnt mind.

As Trevj says there is the potential risk of an air pistol exceeding the 6ftlbs limit. At which point it is classed as a firearm. Possession of an unlicensed firearm carries serious jail time in the UK. Though to be honest it is unlikely that UK Customs would send it for examination unless it is on a list of restricted items. They tend to be more interested in collecting the duty and VAT. I would certainly test it with a chronograph before dispatch. I doubt it would exceed the limit but it is best to be safe.

I worked in a gun shop in England till I moved here 2 years ago.

The CO2 powered pistols are usually in the 3 to 4ft-lb limit, very few air pistols were close to 6ft-lb. You will have no problems with the crossman 357.

Some of the older single shot crossmans and the semi auto model 600 got close to 6ft-lb.
