By the looks of things here on the forum, there is scarcely a firearms safe without at least one or two polymer framed wonder guns taking up real estate. These pistols are designed to be simple to maintain and care for, but what about the frame itself? Some say nothing more than soap and water to clean the frame,as some cleaners with extract the oils in the polymer...dry it out and bleach it,leaving it brittle over time. I have extensive experience with different plastics in my job and know that this theory is true with automotive plastics. I'd be interested in hearing how some of the veterans on the forum care for polymer.

The best part of most poly guns is that you dont have to clean them ;) just kidding.... no im not.

but for real I just wipe my glock frame down with a towel to get any cleaning :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug: that leaked on it off. The inside of the frame is just the usual wipe down of proshot 2 in 1. The only exceptoin was a :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug:ty compensated g17 that got so dirty so quick id dunk it in mineral spirits [at the range] and then air blow and wipe it down. what a pain that POS was.

uhh, I have always used G96 to clean the frame of my gun, never had a problem. However, I can count the amounts of times I have cleaned the frame on one hand

I know the frame is supposed to be maintenance free, and most pay little attention to it,but I like to wipe them down with a damp micro fiber once in a while and give them a once over with a Hoppes silicone cloth. I just find this helps maintain the overall look of my pistols and reduces scuffs from holstering and accessories sliding on and off the rail.....kinda anal about my stuff:)

Keeping it in your purse should help with it never getting dirty in the first place.

Buy a Full Metal gun, a good 1911, the frame will not dry out :)

you know what's good with polymer gun ? in 40years they will go in the recycle bin ) for the second life.....plastic chair...lolll
