I have a MAK-90, a Clintin Era civilian model of an AK-47.
It does not have a threaded muzzle, cleaning rod, bayonet lug, but has a terrible thumbhole stock.

MY OPTIONS
I want to replace it with another stock that looks better, or a traditional AK stock or a folder similar to an FN paratrooper stock similar to the Galil as shown in the picture.
Another option could also be a spacer similar to the Second Model AK-47 between the stock and the receiver.
OR trade it for a traditional looking AK-47.

I had one of these once upon a time. I had it reconverted to it's original configuration by getting a new set of AK furniture (wood). At that time, getting these parts mailed to you from the US wasn't a problem. If it is now, try rus military.com (they're based out of the UK, so you don't have to worry about US export regs).

Anyhow, the buttstock I had was for a stamped receiver (yours is a machined receiver--mine was also machined). My gunsmith carved out the square buttstock end into a circular one so that it'd fit in the rear of the machined receiver. He further secured it (and filled in the gaps) with glass bedding material. It actually ended up looking pretty good, as the black glass bedding material looked like it was part of the metal receiver. We had to use glass bedding also because the Clinton guys had machined/cut off the lower rear corners of the receiver so that importers/end-users couldn't readily change these thumb holed monstrosities back to their original configurations.

If your machined receiver AK is one of the earlier imports, it probably doesn't have these cuts made, so you can just put on a stock made for the machined receiver. You'll obviously need a pistol grip and screw and nut. I can't tell which one you have without seeing the stock removed.

Hope this gives you some ideas:) Anything can be done if you have the imagination and resources!

I have seen it done. Get a milled AK butt stock and dremel it round to fit the hole. Most only have a top tang for a screw and so you might have to create a bottom tang out of heavy sheet metal. Because of the angle of the receiver, craft a spacer out of wood, or glass-bedding as indicated.
