i love the k98 and have been thinking a company like CZ/or mauser werke, should make replicas in 308 like AIA did with the enfields,

anyway i thought if a guy bought a CZ/Zastava action new and bought a k98 millitary contour barrel in 308 and take the extras of a junk k98 and get them attached to the new gun and then get a stock made following the k98 look then get your barrel and action bedded i think it would be a little pricey but a guy could make a very atractive and functional useful replica,

has anyone tried it?

Why not just buy a Issy K98 conversion in 308 ?

What bcshooter is trying to say, is that the Israeli's made K98k's in .308. THey're more or less visually identical to a German rifle, but in the updated calibre.

It's already been done in Germany by Mauser, at least 5 to 10 years ago, New Mauser Replicas, sold by Frankonia, K98's and Mauser Banner K98's, Gew98, and several other models.

I saved a copy on my HD, I'll look for it.

H Wally, if you can find a Lee enfield No4 that is in military configuration and converted to 7.62x51 for 1/3 the price of an IAI and in brand new condition, please let me know your source. bearhunter

pick up a CZ/BRNO and don't look back.
my 7.62 K98 is the only K98 i have and I'm very very happy with it.

sorry for the bad pics.
but yeah.
it's got the best wood i've seen on almost any rifle ever.
nice nice gun.
and i dont have to shoot any of that pesky 8mm :p

Updated caliber??,the Israeli 7.62 is a good conversion, but in no way is it superior to the 8x57.

Updated as in 1898 vs. 1950 or whenever the .308 was devised.

I'd never suggest a .308 was superior to the classic 8mm.
I dont even think the Israeli's would, as they retained 8mm for their designated sniper rifles.
